Matthew 5:20-22, 27-28, 33-34, 37:
Jesus said to his disciples: “I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. “You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with brother will be liable to judgment. “You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. “Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow. But I say to you, do not swear at all. Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one.”

There has never existed anyone in His-story that didn’t need God. God makes all things and is the Lifeline to our Souls. So, without God, we cannot have life – either here now or in the future Eternity that awaits us all. If God is responsible for making us and breathing life into our Souls, then how could we ever think that we could get back Home without Him? Per the Gospel, in the flesh apart from God in this world, all of us (yes, every single one of us) is going to kill (get angry), commit adultery (look at someone in lust while being married), make false oaths (saying yes, but meaning no – or, vice versa), etc. Jesus tells us “anything more is from the evil one”. This so frustrated St. Paul that he wrote in his letter to the Romans (7:24-25), “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.” So, we are to keep trying our best in this world with God’s Wisdom, Grace, and Mercy while we continue to fail in sin time and time again. All of the Saints that knew Jesus Christ first-hand understood this – and, every one of them fell short (e.g. Peter’s three denials of Jesus during His trial). The key is not “beating ourselves up” for falling; the key is (like the Saints) getting back up time and time again no matter how much it hurts. That’s what Jesus did for us. He fell three times while carrying the Cross to Calvary. But He got back up and finished the task fulfilling the Messianic Prophecy and opening the Gates of Heaven to all of us forever. He didn’t try to “go it alone” without His Father, but constantly prayed to God for His Help. So, let’s not fool ourselves into doing life “without Him”. For “without Him”, one way or another, we won’t have Life.

If you've never had a relationship with Jesus Christ (or, if you've drifted a bit in your relationship with Him), please consider opening your heart up to Him and accepting Him as your King and Savior. By seeking Him, He will meet you and love you where you are; and, your life will never be the same.
