John 3:16-18:
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

As an engineer, I love mathematics; and, more specifically, I love “If-Then” statements. The Gospel gives us a lot of “If-Then” statements. For example, the Gospel teaches us that IF we Believe in Jesus, THEN we will not “perish” and THEREFORE have Eternal Life and never be condemned. Conversely, IF we don’t Believe in Jesus, THEN we already condemned and THEREFORE will die and not have Eternal Life. Now, this all sounds pretty easy and straight-forward to those who think very analytically. But, that’s not the entire “THEN” part of your equation as per Matthew 25:31-46 (NIV): “THEN the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “THEN the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “THEN he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “THEN they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” So, it’s critically-important that we “run all of the way through the finish line” and that we don’t let-up at any point. We must do more than just Believe in Him in theory, we have to Believe in Him in our actions. That’s exactly where the Book of Acts gets its name! Just like in James 2:18: “But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” In these challenging times, we need to show the world Christ. For IF we don’t, THEN how too will they come to Believe in Jesus and THEREFORE share in Eternity with God?

4 年Great post Gregg, thanks for sharing. Made me think that if I'm not doing something overt (like working at a food pantry), I can still show through my selection of words and tone, to communicate in way that shows/spreads kindness and peace.
