Matthew 26:21-27:
Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised. Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him, “God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.” He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.” Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay all according to his conduct.”
Blog:
We all are humans and, thus, we “mostly-think” like humans. We tend to see things through our own perspectives, world views, experiences, etc. We are, by nature, very self-centered. Jesus knows this about us. Remember, Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” So, why does Jesus call-out Peter in the Gospel for thinking like a human? While God designed us as humans to start, we are meant to finish as Divine. “We have been set apart as Holy” (Hebrews 10:1)) and we are “called to be Saints” (1 Corinthians 1:2) and, one day, we will “judge angels” (1 Corinthians 6:3)! Scripture if full of incredible Claims on who we are in Christ. So, rather than thinking like humans 100% of the time, we should always try to think like God. Thinking like Him and seeing things through His Eyes is the best Way to live. Life is hard, but it’s a “Good Hard” with a “Sanctification Process” that takes time. And, Glory awaits all of those who do their best to live in Him. We don’t need to be mind-readers to know how God thinks. Remember, life’s an “Open-Book-Test” and God has given us the choice on whether or not to use the Book…
