Luke 10:38-42
Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

We all worry too much. According to God, we shouldn’t worry at all. Worrying can’t add one minute to our lives and it shows a bit of mistrust in God having control over all things. Martha seemed like a “worrier” and Jesus called her out on it by telling her, “you are anxious and worried about many things.” In his book, “Crash the Chatterbox”, Pastor Steven Furtick challenges all of us to do what he does when the “chatterbox” of worry enters into our minds. He suggests that we should just let it go and leave it to Jesus. He then challenges us to ask, “What if” and then respond with “God will”. An example would be, “what if I don’t make the train on time?” followed possibly by, “God will provide a way home either via the next train or another method; but, I’ll get home.” There were a lot of folks late for work (with some who were stuck in traffic) to the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001, but God didn’t want them in those Towers on that ill-fated day. If you remember the days and months that followed 9/11, you will also recall what God did. The Churches were full and a global outpouring of love like nothing most of us have ever seen in our lifetimes unfolded. God’s got this and we sure don’t. So, just like Mary, Martha’s Sister, does in the Gospel, let’s do our best to rest in the Lord and spend our time with Him. It is what we were Designed to do and He can never, ever be taken from us.

If you've never had a relationship with Jesus Christ (or, if you've drifted a bit in your relationship with Him), please consider opening your heart up to Him and accepting Him as your King and Savior. By seeking Him, He will meet you and love you where you are; and, your life will never be the same.
