AUSTRALIA IS BEHIND ON THE LEADER BOARD.
Gender equality won’t be achieved in Australia for another 170 years as recently reported by The World Economic Forum. Alarmingly Australia has slid from 36th place in 2015, to 46th place in 2016. Rwanda, The Philippines and Nicaragua are all in the top 10. Australians, it is time to stand up for your daughters and to make the world more equal for them. When you help the girl, you help the community.
IT’S TIME TO STEP UP
Fathers, you want your daughters to have the same work and leadership opportunities as your sons.
Husbands, you want the pay gap to be closed so there is more money for your family.
Single men, you want more work flexibility and to work in a more profitable company.
Gender equality benefits you and benefits women. It isn’t a them vs us. It affects us all.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Male Champions of Change are a great example. Mentor women into leadership roles and don’t choose the guy that reminds you of yourself. Allow both parents to choose how they want to take parental leave. Be okay if Dads leave work early to pick up the kids or to get dinner on for the family. In the digital age, life can and should be more flexible.
GENDER EQUALITY IS GOOD BUSINESS
Research from the Peterson Institute of International Economics shows that going from having no women in leadership to a 30% share is associated with a 15% increase in profit for a typical firm. Everyone understands profit. Open doors to women instead of closing them and more people in the company benefit. Men and women.
I grew up in central Queensland knowing that Australians love a challenge and don’t like being beaten at anything. Let’s move this country to the top of the charts. Together. I don’t want to wait until I am 205 years old.

7 年Great article, hits the nail on the head. We need to hold our husbands and fathers accountable because whilst they hold the majority of leadership positions, they control the power to change. PS: Great to see another LMBDW bringing this issue to the fore.
