In Memory Of Scott Hall (Razor Ramon)

In Memory Of Scott Hall (Razor Ramon)

After the incredibly sad news of 2X WWE Hall Of Famer Scott “Razor Ramon” Hall I’d like to share 3 of my absolute favourite photos for a multitude of reasons.

For those who follow pro-wrestling will be fully aware of the news & will know what an impact Scott Hall had on the wrestling industry. Not only for his in-ring skills & character but the inspirational story of (lack of a better phrase) ‘Getting back on the wagon’.

For those who have no idea who this man is & why these photos mean so much to me, I’ll set the scene for you, it’s 1993 (I’m 6 years old) & ‘The Bad Guy’ is on Sky Sports at 7am before school, I’m being told by my mum “Get Ready for school” & I VIVIDLY remember telling my mum “no I can’t, Razor Ramon will be fighting Rick ‘The Model’ Martel for the Intercontinental Championship” (because of course my mum knows what all of that sentence meant).

Well, long story short, I watched that entire episode of WWF programming (getting ready between the advert breaks) & watched Razor Ramon win the intercontinental title. I even remember the teacher (I hated her, still to this day I can’t believe some of the things she would say) “You seem happier than normal” – well that’s because Razor Ramon is Champion, all is right with the world.

Fast forward a year & my Mum & Dad kindly took me to see the WWF in the Royal Albert Hall, I was excited to see 2 people, Bret Hart & Razor Ramon. Razor Ramon “tagged” my hand & the world was amazing. Side note, I possibly think it was that moment that triggered something, maybe the desire to recreate that ‘buzz’, all I know is, for the 30(ish) years that have followed, wrestling in some shape, form or fashion has been a major part of my life.

Fast Forwarding slightly, when Scott Hall would team with a man called Kevin Nash (feel free to laugh) I always saw ‘The Outsiders’ as myself & my close friend Andy (see photo). Scott & Kevin were inseparable for the most part & I absolutely love & adore their mutual love of each other – To be so bold, a value I cherish and try to display wherever I can.

So now let me talk about those 3 photos,

Getting the group photo of myself, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash & my friend Andy, I’ll be honest, I probably look at this photo at least once a week. It just instantly puts me into a positive state of mind. We’re doing “spooky hands” which is what the nWo would do on TV (Me & Andy loved that & would often mimic). I’ll never forget walking into that photo booth with Andy, and Scott Hall yelling “Hey Yo, here come a couple of true outsiders”…it still sends geeky chills down my spine for such a cool moment.

Now the other 2 photos, a little more personal, I think you can see, I can’t stop smiling, that 6-year-old who idolized The Bad Guy’, the primary school kid that tried to dress as Razor Ramon (even trying to do the curl at the front of my hair). Well, like a “geek” I’d paid for 2 photos, I wanted one with the “Wolf Pac” hand symbol (long story), but I also wanted a photo of me & Scott throwing a toothpick into the camera. Well, our first attempt, he wasn’t ready, so the photo wasn’t that good, I was super happy though, I start walking away, however, while I walked away he went over to the cameraman, saw the photo & said “Hey man, this photo is shit….get el hefe back” (I thought to myself quickly, what the hell have I done) anyways, he gave me 4 toothpicks & he demanded the cameraman take multiple shots, the photo below was the best we could get.

*I probably should mention to a non-wrestling fan, Razor Ramon’s ‘thing’ would be to flick a toothpick into the camera/opponent and it was the coolest f**king thing ever! (trust me)

I'd also like to point out, I picked up the toothpick(s) & still have it cherished

So yeah, the TLDR

I’m actually quite sad about the passing of Scott Hall for a multitude of reasons & I’d like to leave you with Scott’s infamous Hall OF Fame Speech Quote

“Hard work pays off, dreams come true. Bad times don’t last, but BAD GUYS do.” – Scott Hall

Alex Gilbert love this and the article .. I think they should do a Scott Hall memorial Ladder match at Maina for the IC title … Stephanie McMahon ?? ??

Fantastic article Alex. I still can’t believe it. My fav wrestler of all time is Shaun Michaels and I still remember every move of that laser match. Scott was a fantastic pro wrestler and like you I’ve watched wrestling every week for the last 30 Plus years. We’ve lost a good one
