Memorial to George Floyd
As I watch George Floyd’s final sailing to join his mother, and the turmoil he has left in his wake - the protests, social introspection and #-tags, I am thinking this is all so surreal and far removed from my bubble-life of a few weeks ago.
When we abstract out the final gasp, the cry to his mama #ICantBreathe, and the kneel that changed our perception of humanity, one may notice these episodes actually are quite common place, in our daily life. There are people around us, less privileged, who are transparent to us, as we go about our daily “priorities”, oblivious to their situation. We don’t see their gasps for breath, deaf to their cries to be heard, or fail to notice the slow throttling of their aspirations, as a silent knee is applied.
Why? Because, in our own cocoon, any visuals / sounds that are unfamiliar and uncomfortable are tuned out.
Please take the time to understand and extend your mind’s hand to empathize or try holding your breath (for 8’46”) to experience #ICantBreathe.
Please #GoBeyondHashTags because #FiresAreColorblind and #BlackLivesMatter.
Rest In Peace George Floyd.
