Memorial Day Reflection
Whenever I visit Washington, D.C., I always try to make it a point to visit Arlington National Cemetery. On one particular visit, as I was approaching the Iwo Jima memorial, I noticed a small American Flag at the base (bottom of far left picture above). When I got closer, I saw that someone had left some personal mementos. There was no name from what I could tell, but clearly this person meant something to whoever left these things. It was such a moving sight to see, that at the base of this giant statue was this small but deeply personal reminder. I left the statue, and while I was walking away, I saw the horse drawn casket quietly making its way to its final resting place. I think about this day from time to time and always wonder who that marine was. He was obviously special to someone. Take time out on this Memorial Day to remember those who gave all…all of whom are special to someone.
