On this Memorial Day…
Memorial Day is a time to remember all those who sacrificed since the US Civil War where an estimated 750,000 Americans died and 1.6 Americans were wounded. Visit a cemetery, honor loved ones and decorate graves to pay respect.
It is not a day to wish anyone a happy holiday, nor is it a day to sell you something or promote a business. Your time off is only possible because these brave men and women gave their all to our nation. We can only celebrate family and country because we honor these brave Americans.
It is a solemn holiday to honor everyone who wore a uniform, served our nation in a military or civilian role, and either lost their lives or were permanently wounded in mind or body to preserve our freedoms to live in freedom. Shake the hand of any person you find this is or has served and simply say, “Thank you for your service.” Gratitude is a healing force they need.
It is a day to reflect how our nation can come together under the most difficult of circumstances to defend and protect our way or life, our freedoms, and our abundance. Hard to imagine in these polarized times. What can you do?
3PM on Memorial Day is a point in time to stop and remember. If you can play an instrument, 3PM is also the time for National Taps Across America. Written in 1862 by U.S. General Daniel Butterfield, just stand out front of your home, at a park or on a balcony at 3PM local time and play the 24 notes of Taps. It will be the largest collaborative commemorative event in our nation. It will be a great honor to participate and it will reach our souls.
Here is the full story of this holiday so we can have greater perspective on this day and celebrate it for the proper reasons….
