Whereas the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) performs services to certify individuals regarding their professional qualifications in safety in the United States and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) performs similar services in the United Kingdom;

Whereas the qualifications established by BCSP and IOSH for professional competency involve meeting educational and professional experience standards, passing certain examinations, and other requirements;

Whereas the processes and standards used by BCSP and IOSH have many similarities; and

Whereas there are some differences in qualifications, standards, and procedures between the United States and the United Kingdom, particularly relating to cultural and business practices and legal systems:

It is agreed between BCSP and IOSH that persons who have met the standards of BCSP for the designation of Certified Safety Professional (CSP), who remain in good standing with BCSP, and who meet any continuance of certification and continued professional development requirements of BCSP will, upon application, payment of fees, and satisfying the additional requirement detailed below, be awarded the designation CMIOSH by IOSH.

It is further agreed between BCSP and IOSH that members of IOSH who have met the standards of IOSH for the designation of Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH), who remain in good standing with IOSH, and who meet any continuance of certification and continued professional development requirements of IOSH will, upon application, payment of fees, and satisfying the additional requirement detailed below, be awarded the designation CSP by BCSP.

To be awarded the CSP certification by BCSP, a person who holds a CMIOSH designation from IOSH and who meets the eligibility criteria of BCSP for the CSP will not be required to take the BCSP Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Examination, but must pass the BCSP Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Examination.

To be awarded the CMIOSH designation by IOSH, a person who holds the CSP designation from BCSP will be considered as having met the education and experience requirements for the CMIOSH designation and will not have to complete the Professional Interview process, but must pass the Open Examination of IOSH.
