A Memorable Encounter: Speaking with Helle Thorning-Schmidt at the EO Women's EmpowHER Series
It was an incredible honor to have the opportunity to share a virtual stage with Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the former Prime Minister of Denmark, at the EO Women's EmpowHER Series yesterday. As her country's first female prime minister and a strong supporter of equal rights for men and women, her thoughts and experiences taught both men and women essential lessons.
Thorning-Schmidt was Prime Minister of Denmark from 2011 to 2015. She is known for her dedication to social justice, equal rights for women, and protecting the environment. During her time in office, her progressive policies and good relationships with other countries made her an example for many people who wanted to be leaders.
The EO Women's EmpowHER Series is a global program that aims to inspire, empower, and connect women entrepreneurs and leaders. Having such a distinguished guest as Thorning-Schmidt share her wisdom and experiences with the audience was an absolute privilege. She talked about how a strong desire to fight for social justice and equality motivated her entry into politics. She emphasized the importance of perseverance, hard work, and the need to be open to new ideas and change. "You have to be willing to challenge yourself and learn from others," she said.
One of the most striking aspects of our discussion was her view on the importance of empowering women in leadership roles. Thorning-Schmidt shared her belief that increasing the number of women in decision-making positions has far-reaching effects on society. "When women are in positions of power, they tend to prioritize issues that affect everyone, like education, healthcare, and social welfare. This ultimately leads to a more balanced and equitable society," she explained.
Thorning-Schmidt also emphasized the need for men to be active allies in the fight for gender equality. "Gender equality is not a women's issue; it is a societal issue that requires the support and commitment of everyone, regardless of their gender," she stated. This message resonated with the audience, highlighting the importance of working together to create a more inclusive and equal world.

1 年Great article Keith Roberts. I love her perspective of Women's issue's ( as well as other groups and minorities) being a societal issue that requires all people to support it so that we can affect change for all people!

1 年I had the opportunity to work in an all-female environment once. It was a women's university and the leadership straight up the chain was 100% female, as was the entire staff. Something I learned from that is how powerful our innate female traits are in running an organization when we are using those innate traits (not trying to play a man's game).
