Well it’s an very old story, but worth listening. In 2002, just in my final semester of engineering, I had all the dreams of a middle class guy, who wears the heavy hat of expectations of family! Was looking for a good job, applying to government jobs etc, as dotcom bust made the job market bit heavy. Well got an interview call from a state electricity board, but with a choice of interview location between patna and shimla! I hope you understand, why I chose Shimla!?
Booked my train ticket to Delhi and then planned to go Shimla via bus! All alone, travelling for the first time to Delhi/Shimla. Reached Delhi (in sleeper) and then looked for the bus terminus. Got a road transport bus that reaches Shimla by 2am! No hotel booking (No MMT days), I reached there (Shimla) only to find the most affordable hotels to be full! Very tired with long travel, I slept at the bus terminus till morning 5am. Keeping an eye on my stuff/dogs/people and sleeping on a bench with tired eyes. Somebody there told me about a temple nearby, which can give some place to stay. Went there (on foot) with lot of hope to find some place to rest/stay and get freshen up. But it was full too! Somehow, got a place to freshen up and reach interview centre by 9am!?
Interview was not the main motive, but visiting New place was, which i succeeded in. But with the limited means I had, it was an experience! Anyways, by then I was dead tired and didn’t know how to survive another night there before moving to Delhi for my return journey (to kolkata)!

Somehow gathered all energy and reached the interview spot by 9am, and was elated to see a batchmate/friend of mine! After interview we both sat down in a restaurant to have lunch and he asked me to move in with him (as he got a good hotel). Finally had a place to get some sleep before heading back.
Yes, I did not get through the interview, as anyways I was not prepared for the same! But that night taught me a lot about life, which colleges don’t!
