Memoir of a Mixed Media Painting

All artists, including writers, musicians and yes, even painters will refer to their personal experiences for inspiration and Angela Gebhardt is no different. Gebhardt has “written” Layers of Life, her autobiography. In a brilliant effort, her mixed media tale of delight and woe chronicled mistakes, risks, trials, tribulations, heartaches, do-overs and decades of navigating that winding, curving path we call life.

Just like the months, years and decades that pile on top of each other, when viewed in retrospect they offer a complete picture of a journey from beginning to end. A beautifully blazed trail not always filled with happily ever after, but it is always the true path of the individual.

The moral of this story is that all life is beautiful when viewed through hindsight, just as a great work of art should be gazed upon from a distance. Gebhardt’s trajectory is the one seen in Layers of Life – the beautiful culmination of all that she came to be. According to her husband, artist Kris Gebhardt, Layers of Life “is the best painting in the Gebhardt collection, it’s an amazing work of art!”
