Memcon 2.54mm (0/100") Pitch Connectors - Choosing The Proper Female Contact
Among Memcon female contacts, you will find 3 different variations: All crimp with the same mass termination equipment and integrate with all housings the same way.
- For a stable insertion force and a large number of matings, the contact MHFFC106 Hi-Flex will fit to most of your applications due to the flexibility of the contact which makes the mating/unmating easy and smooth. This most recent design now represents over 90% of all female contacts sold and by scale of manufacturing offers the lowest cost alternative. The contact robustness is due to the true spring "tweezer tip" V shape which offers superior performance when mating to oversized or bent male pins.
- For high insertion force and limited number of positions contact MHFC025 might fit your callout. Typically used for 6 or fewer positions in non locking or latching housings. Note a cumulative insertion/extraction can raise the force where operators tend to rock the connector for removal - that action can damage by enlarging the spring design.
- For low insertion force, you could select the MLFC506. Generally can be used for all locking or latching housings or pin counts over 6.
The MHFC025 and MLFC506 in many cases are grandfathered designs and when presented the MHFFC106 alternative have been replaced. Quite simply it is a better contact at slightly less cost.
All contact are available with plating options, from tin to gold.
The selection is made according to your need in term of cycle mating, corrosion and mating part. The most used plating is regular gold, which fits to most of applications, enables easy soldering, ensures a long lifecycle and mates with standard gold headers. Selective and full gold plating options as well as thicknesses are options.
