The Melt Madness Championship is within arm’s reach for these #highered brands ?
As we enter Melt Madness Week 4, the team at Zillion would like to extend their thanks to everyone who breathes life into #highered brands on a daily basis. We see you. And, after spending quality time considering how best to evaluate and determine which brands move forward in pursuit of the Melt Madness Championship, we value you and your teams more than ever.?
For anyone just joining us on this journey, Melt Madness started with 128 dynamic collegiate brands, evaluated as they were paired for the recent men’s and women’s basketball championship. Along the way, we applied the criteria below to score each brand and decide which brands move forward in our competition.?
We’ll say this–no one could have predicted the calls our analysts made to yield just 16 amazing collegiate brands still in play this week. You can check out our complete coverage by visiting #zillionagency on LinkedIn. And, you can catch up on the high points before this week’s action begins right now.?
Turning first to the women’s pairings, in Greenville region 1 Notre Dame once again emerged on top, setting up a tough match this week with Oklahoma. How will the mission-forward brands face-off? Either way, the winner will be pitted against the victor of the Greenville region 2 pairing. After a heartbreaking goodbye to NC State last week, Michigan takes on Oklahoma State to advance. Perhaps we’ll see an in-state battle between the two Oklahoma brands? Don’t miss Wednesday’s coverage to find out!
In Seattle region 3 action, Vermont’s run for the championship came to an end thanks to OSU. Our analysts called it on the finer points of the brand idea’s tangible vs. intangible impact. Hard as the decision was, it set up the kind of granularity we can expect as the brand stakes get higher and higher. Rounding out the action in Seattle region 4, Texas bested Stanford by another fine point of brand impact, with Georgia beating out Colorado in a call made for substance over style.?

Not to be outdone, the men’s competition once again provided a fair share of ups and downs. Let’s start with the South region action, where Alabama and Virginia made life–and productive discussion–very difficult for our analysts. When push came to shove in their head-to-head match-up, Alabama’s swagger edged out Virginia’s collectivism and moves on to face Creighton this week. You won’t want to miss it. In East region play, Purdue topped Tennessee to set up this week’s contest with Vermont.?
If you’re after hotly contested brand battles, the Midwest region never disappoints. Colgate sent Xavier home with sharp plays and an idea filled with relentless momentum and action orientation. They’ll see if their winning streak continues when they face Drake this week. And who could forget the back and forth between Illinois and Virginia Commonwealth during last week’s West region competition? The #illini came to play, and will no doubt show up ready to take on UCLA this week.?
