loanDepot’s Chairman’s Elite Club Brings Together the Best of the Best

Last week I had the good fortune of meeting 250 of the most energized people I’ve ever seen. That’s saying something, because, as a real estate industry veteran, I’ve been around high-energy people my entire career. This group delivered an entirely different level of intensity. Called the Chairman’s Elite, these lending professionals are the best of the best—and they gathered in Miami last week to celebrate their success, but, even more important, to talk about what future success will look like.

During a panel conversation I was invited to join with Anthony Hsieh, loanDepot’s CEO and mello Home’s Founder; Jeff Walsh, loanDepot’s Chief Operating Officer; Dan Hanson, loanDepot’s Chief Retail Production Officer; and Chad Smith, loanDepot’s President, Direct Lending, it became abundantly clear that the executive leadership leads by example. It’s also evident that all ideas are not only welcomed—they are actively requested. And, finally, but most important, doing things that have never been done before is pretty much what they call a regular business day.

And, as CEO of mello Home, that’s where I come in, because mello Home is a concept that is going to forever change how customers think about mortgage lending. We’re creating a one-stop shop where customers can get pre-approved, get connected to an exceptional local realtor, and even source top-shelf craftsmen to handle their renovations—all within one user-friendly, convenient environment. Talk about a game changer!

Listening to Anthony and the senior leadership interact with the Chairman’s Elite helped me to better understand how loanDepot has amassed such a wealth of talent in such a short time frame. Usually, it takes a lot of work to recruit exceptional talent, and yet, as Dan Hanson explained in one session, outstanding talent is coming to us because of our vision. Dan put it best when he said “Our recruiting is not a hook, it’s a magnet.” Put another way: Great people are coming to us not because they want to leave bad situations; they’re leaving good situations because they see that our vision is going to deliver amazing opportunity. They see that it’s new, it’s different, it’s unprecedented and they want to be part of it.

Chief Technology Officer, Dom Marchetti, together with Anthony, are committed to creating technology that will both delight our customers as well as attract amazing talent. Dom has worked tirelessly to assemble exceptional tech teams that have built—and are continuing to build—proprietary technology the likes of which this industry has only dreamed of. And this technology, together with this talented workforce, are going to be the one-two punch that will knock this industry sideways.

Thanks in part to the efforts of an unparalleled leadership team, as well as the brilliant performance of the 250 Chairman’s Elite members that I met—and the hundreds of #TeamloanDepot associates that I have yet to meet.
