Melbourne Design Week 2020
We successfully launched our show last Thursday and welcome to our ‘Cool Line’ journey: A network of climate-sensitive interventions, envisioning future scenarios that integrate architecture and landscape to form a thriving urban socio-ecology. The projected increase in urban density and ambient temperatures, as well as the post-industrial state of north-west Melbourne and Moonee Ponds Creek provides an opportunity for multi-scalar innovative and resilient responses. The exhibit demonstrates how future urban planning must address the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. It engages with international and local discourse as global issues often require extensive, interconnected local solutions.
Design proposals aim to forge continuous and thermally comfortable pedestrian and bike circulation routes through the public realm joining existing fragmented green space. This is achieved through a collection of engineered “cooling devices” that capitalise on best practice green-blue infrastructure and architecture to enhance urban permeability, water and air quality, health, well-being and programmatic mixity.

4 年Congratulations Markus, such an interesting topic. I would have certainly attended if I wasn't based in Brisbane. Hope to find more on the content of the exhibition online.

4 年Disappointed I couldn't make it to the opening. Due to the health of my mother who is at risk of coronavirus, I decided to limit all movement in the CBD. Looks great though.
