Melancholy over the 710 Fwy!

I feel sad that 710 extension was not approved! While we try to pass our city as a World-Class one (with desire to host the International Olympics, etc.), we sadly don't have the infrastructure to measure up! Our attempt to a train system is an incomplete dream, at best, with subway lines that end nowhere! We are the only major city with any kind of a rail system where someone landing at our international airport can not take a train to our city center, or to anywhere out of the airport. Likewise, we have (chocked) freeways that end nowhere (e.g. 710!) This was our one chance to make 710 a real thoroughfare by making it part of the interstate highway system. However, the ever-present opponents found excuses to block it! Even though that budget is now ear-marked for improvement of already-existing roads -- there will always be reasons not to do it; does that mean we should never extend our infrastructure - because there are always other ways we can think of to spend that money? Shouldn't we have bitten the bullet once-and-for-all, to bring LA one step closer to being an international/world-class city it deserves to be?
