Megan Explores Cape Town
The sunny climate, the turquoise waters, the ‘good life’ with excellent cuisine (including mount-watering seafood), the world-class wines, the mix of Dutch, French, Malay, English, Afrikaner and Xhosa cultures, and the straightforward flight landing in the similar time zone (GMT+ 2) help Cape Town top off the incentive wish lists year after year.
And this January it was Megan Whitty ’s turn to jump on a flight to Cape, at the invitation of Mundus Representation , All About Flights and Grosvenor Tours (the Cape Town Destination Management Company)
Keeping our destination knowledge fresh becomes all-the-more important post-Covid where properties have re-emerged with additional services, upgrades, enhancements but also closures and adjustments that as event professionals we must be aware of and factor in our client recommendations.
There isn’t one and only way of enjoying Cape Town! In fact, with all incentive trips we organised in Cape Town, we worked hard to get to know our client, their guests, their likes, dislikes, the timeframe available and the season, and aimed to weave into the programme the most suitable sequence of experiences, discoveries and delights to generate the genuine ‘wow’ gasps, the feeling of “I’ve arrived” and “This is THE life!” and, that fantastic sense of tranquillity a well-designed programme can achieve for its guests.

Megan’s Impressions
A short summary of the ‘highs’ that have stayed with Megan once her suntan faded a little:
"I was actually speechless the whole way round, the grounds are huge and full of the most beautiful flowers! This would be a beautiful destination for a gala dinner." .... Megan's thoughts on visiting Vergelegen Wine Estate
The Programme
The trip organisers designed the programme to maximise the exposure to the best Cape Town has to offer, with one-night stays at the One & Only Cape Town , at Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town and with a final experience at Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa in Somerset West (a district of Cape Town but a distinctively different, rural setting with all the charm of the South African Cape countryside).?
The Highlights
Cape Town
In Cape Town you would be looking to stroll in the waterfront harbour for views, buzz, shops and eateries. To ‘feel’ the city’s character you may also visit the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art. ?Table Mountain's jaw-dropping views will feel like a must too. And to continue the series of natural explorations, options include Boulders Beach (famous for its penguins) and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Robben Island features also as a must for groups interested in Nelson Mandela’s ?fight for freedom.

Somerset West
South Africa is a large country and often visitors have matching plans! However, you can experience a microcosm of South Africa simply by heading to Somerset West, originally a cattle post, and now an affluent town offering visitors a Mediterranean-like climate, a rich heritage, locally-produced wines, an array of Cape Dutch historic buildings, and a collection of charming boutiques. Instant charm!
One & Only Hotel
Our highlights here include the palm-fringed infinity pool, the Wine Studio which lends itself for tastings, private dining or even South African wine blending. And then there is Vista for local flavour dishes and Nobu for that exotic touch and seafood artistry we have come to so crave in our global travels!
Mount Nelson Hotel
With the perfect combination of ‘leafy tranquillity and contemporary buzz’, guests at Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel can enjoy both the city buzz and the hotel history and tailored experiences: sunlight and sunset walks, classic car tours, marine biologist experiences... it’s easy to feel both stimulated and part of an elite of special Cape adventurers!

?Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa
Surrounded by the majestic Hottentots Holland Mountains and bordering some of the Cape’s top wine farms, Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa felt at the same time luxurious and relaxed, like a home away from home.
This laidback luxury was evident in the spa, the adjacent Gary Player-designed golf course and the three dining options, from more upscale at Stefan’s Restaurant, to relaxed al fresco lunches and dinners under the stars on Oak Terrace, and the snacks and small plates in Magnolia Social Dining Lounge.
It really was hard to leave the feeling of being at one with nature, relaxed and free that Erinvale managed to bring on!
But now that we are back in the UK, all we want is to take you there! Cape Town holds its own but it can also be a gateway to game drives and so much more South Africa has to offer!
