Early last week the Biden Administration made public that they will be distributing $1.2 billion in federal funds to 9 qualifying projects. Created under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, these grants are tailored for highways, bridges, freight, port, passenger rail, and public transportations.
U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated, “After receiving over 100 applications, we are proud to fund these nine infrastructure megaprojects across the country to create jobs, strengthen our supply chains, expand our economy and renew America’s built landscape,”
Receiving $150 million in funding is the Calcasieu River Bridge on Interstate 10. This bridge is said to be a major hold up in freight traffic. With these funds, the Louisiana DOT will be replacing the 70-year-old bridge. DOT stated, “The new bridge will relieve congestion and improve regional mobility, supply chain efficiency and safety,”
Another winner to be granted funding is the Brent Space Bridge connecting Cincinnati and Kentucky. Faced with constant traffic and congestion of freight, the funds will be used to construct a new bridge alongside the already established bridge to help fluidity. ?
?As the Biden Administration continues to allocate funds to critical infrastructure needs, we hope to see relief in supply chain bottlenecks with the completion of each project.?
