Meeting our heroes

Meeting our heroes

Yesterday, my family and I visited the Military Family Resource Centre at Canadian Forces Base Trenton to distribute Family Gift Boxes containing gift cards, free movie tickets and other “goodies” to military families with a loved one deployed overseas during the December holiday season. Last week, we had the privilege of meeting some of our amazing military family heroes out west at the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre.

The military families who received these gift boxes were so grateful; but honestly, we’re the one’s who are full of gratitude to them.

As I often mention, our brave military families make their sacrifices in silence. We rarely, if ever, hear about the sleepless nights, constant worry and stress military family members endure. As thousands of military personnel leave home for months at a time to serve abroad, participate in ongoing training cycles, or provide emergency relief on the home front, it’s the military families who provide unconditional support to our soldiers, allowing them to perform their often-dangerous duties.

We went to distribute gift cards, but we were actually there for the hugs.

So we went to say “Thank You”.

The incredible people we met and the stories we heard from families, serving members and veterans are the “goodies” we take with us into the new year.

The reason Lillian and I created Together We Stand two years ago, was to honour and thank military families for their service. Our visits confirmed that TWS is steadily accomplishing its goal.

We’ve got great things planned for 2020 and are working to connect more Canadians to our mission of showing military families how much Canada appreciates them.

With the holidays around the corner, why not take a few minutes to share your greetings with these amazing people who keep life on the home front together.
