MEETING WITH MPP Percy Hatfield

I Had a meeting yesterday with MPP Percy Hatfield who is the NDP critic for Municipal Affairs. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss much needed changes to the scope of powers of the OMB specifically as it speaks to the ability of Municipalities to uphold their approved Official Plans. It was a great meeting. MPP Hatfield was very receptive and, given that he too was once a Municipal Councillor, understands the need for bold reform.

Last month I met with the Honourable Bill Mauro, Minister of Municipal Affairs, and yesterday I met with MPP Hatfield (NDP) and next week I will be meeting with MPP Patrick Brown (PC). The reason? I believe that if effective and real change is to occur, there needs to be discussions with all parties; collaboration across the aisle.

OMB reform is not about party politics. It is about doing what’s best for our municipalities and ensuring that communities have a say in how they grow and evolve.
