Meeting the expected standard?
In education we get so used to reviewing the work of children or the performance of staff and trying to assess if they've met the expected standard. But tonight, I'm on the receiving end!
I've been asked by a friend to give a short, inspiring and funny talk to prize winners and parents at a secondary school. How could I say you've asked to wrong person? So here's my plan.
In 1991 I watched SWFC at Wembley beat Man Utd 1-0 to win the Rumblelow's Cup and in the same year I ran my one and only full marathon in Sheffield in 3 hours 35 mins. At Wembley I was watching and cheering SWFC; in the marathon I trained hard over months and felt a great sense of pride.
The message for students is hopefully, get involved in life, lead and don't just follow others, participate in life more than watching things unfold around you - and go on and achieve great things! Plus a few jokes at my friend's expense - he supports Notts County!!
