Meeting with Emcon/MOTI

Yesterday - the #CaribooRD Directors' for Areas A,B,C,D,I and K as well as the #CaribooRD Board Chair/CAO met with representatives from Emcon/Ministry of Transportation (Ministry/MOTI) for just over ?an hour via teleconference. After reviewing this past year involving managing challenging rural road situations as a result of the Spring/Fall 2020 Spring Freshet, their preparations for Winter Road Maintenance and getting ready for the 2021 Spring Freshet that we all know is coming -- A Question/Answer Period followed...

Insofar as #CaribooRD Area D roads:

a) Williams Lake Cut Off Road at Hawkes Creek -- nearly all the work to install the new bridge there is complete and there should be an announcement before the end of November indicating that the road is re-open to the public

b) Soda Creek-Macalister Road Closure -- Ministry of Transportation advises that they are currently targeting Summer 2021 for this road to re-open, pending the outcome of the 2021 Spring Freshet. Unfortunately -- with the outcome of the Spring 2020 Freshet, they simply had to triage their limited resources to the most impacted residents first. The Ministry of Transportation is planning to ask for more resources to step up repairs for all rural roads in the Ministry's Cariboo District (Lillioet north to Hixon) and my Board Chair plans to advocate for the same on behalf of the Cariboo Regional District, once the new BC Cabinet is sworn in on Thursday....

c) Forglen Road -- the Ministry recognizes that their solution to replace the culvert under this road, in light of the high water flow this past Spring was completely inadequate and are re-doing their plans as we speak and hope to move forward in 2021 once the plans are drawn up

Also in light of the land moving north of the Cottonwood bridge on Highway 97, there are also monitoring the situation and will response as needed. And the West Fraser Road project is still on track for construction in Spring 2021 -- Full details on this project at:

Finally - a reminder that if you have concerns about road maintenance issues in the Tyee Lake, Soda Creek Valley, McLeese/Duckworth Lake areas, Macalister up to Marguerite -- you are encouraged to call Emcon's 24 hour phone line at 1-866-353-3136 and report the situation with the road name and what is occuring or not occuring... And of course, I am available for follow-up as needed
