Meet The Yonderists: Monica, Junior Developer
Monica is one of the five summer interns who have decided to become part of our community in Ia?i. What made her accept this new challenge and join us as a Junior Developer? “I was really amazed by this community and it has been my dream to become a yonderist since I started the internship. The people had the bigger impact on my decision, as they are so friendly and involved. I was really aiming for a workplace where I can improve my skills, and have good colleagues that understand me, and I found that place at Yonder.”
Read the interview below and find more about Monica’s experience and how the internship helped her grow both personally and professionally.
Thank you, Monica, for sharing it with us! We wish you a #yonderful adventure!
It’s been already two months since you have finished the internship. If you look back now, what are the most important things that you have learnt during this summer?
I think that the most important things that this internship taught me are that you always have to be curious, to ask questions and last but not least to understand that mistakes only help you grow, and to learn from them. I used to always be anxious when I made a mistake in the past, and that actually made the problem even worse. The key to that, as I learnt after this summer, is to approach the issue calmly and to realize that almost everything is solvable.

How does an internship help you grow?
An internship is probably the best choice to start a career, because it helps you have a smooth transition between the student life and the adult life. It helps you gain experience that you can put in your resume, and if you are lucky as I was, it helps you learn how to work in a team and develop your social skills. I really find myself as a better person after this internship, because not only do I have more technical knowledge, but I also learnt how to communicate with my colleagues and exchange ideas so that we all have the same understanding on certain topics.
You were talking about social skills. What other skills have you developed during the internship?
Mostly technical skills, some things were completely new to me, and I had to invest time and focus to gain an understanding, but I also had the chance to reinforce my knowledge on some aspects that I was already familiar with from school. My social skills also gained a pretty big improvement this summer, as I kept good communication with my colleagues and my mentors at all times. I even learnt to have more patience when developing a new project with the team and not rush into things.
If it were to choose three words to describe life@yonder, what would they be?
I think that these words would be: fun, challenging and rewarding. As a junior developer, most of all, you need guidance, and Yonder is the place to find that, as here you can find lots of people more than happy to give you a hand when you are stuck with a problem, related to the job or not. I made friends, I laughed and I had fun, all while I was still concentrating on doing my job. Yonder is really a place where you can blend all this in a nice way.
At the end of the internship, you have chosen to become part of our community and you are now a true yonderist. What made you accept the new challenge?
I was really amazed by this community and it has been my dream to become a yonderist since I started the internship. Besides the Tuesdays with bagels at the office and the view at the 11th floor of the Palace of Culture, I think that the people had the bigger impact on my decision, as they are so friendly and involved. I was really aiming for a workplace where I can improve my skills, and have good colleagues that understand me, and I found that place at Yonder.
