Meet the Women of Genasys

As we celebrate Women's Month in South Africa, we're excited to introduce some of the incredible women at Genasys. Meet Laura Strauss, our Customer Success Manager and find out how she advises young women starting out to persevere and move forward with determination.

Can you describe your role at Genasys and what you find the most rewarding about your work?

As a Key Account manager at Genasys, my role involves overseeing all aspects of our client portfolios, with a focus on identifying and supporting our clients in achieving their specific strategic objectives. The most rewarding part of my work is reaching significant milestones alongside our dedicated team, and successfully meeting our clients' needs. The strong relationships we build with our clients and the collaborative spirit we share make these achievements particularly fulfilling.

What inspired you to pursue a career in your field, and how has the journey been so far?

My career path has been shaped by the fortunate opportunities I've encountered, which have allowed me to grow without a predefined career goal. I found my place in the insurance industry and have developed a deep appreciation for it. My journey has been both challenging and rewarding, and I've had the privilege of meeting and maintaining valuable relationships with many remarkable individuals, both professionally and personally, for which I am deeply grateful.

What are some of your hobbies or activities that you enjoy in your spare time?

I greatly enjoy spending time with my little family, and we share a mutual passion for the outdoors. Whenever the opportunity arises, we pack our bags to embark on adventures, typically to sunny destinations that offer a variety of outdoor activities.

As we celebrate Women's Month, what message or advice would you like to share with other women striving to succeed in their careers?

When faced with challenges, perseverance is key - keep moving forward with determination.

How do you think women in our industry can be better supported?

Women in our industry can be better supported through ongoing learning and development initiatives, as well as consistent access to mentorship and opportunities for upskilling. It's essential to incentivize the pursuit of leadership roles and for organisations to actively work to remove barriers that impede these aspirations.

I think the concept of unexpected opportunities over predefined career goals should resonate well, given how many of us in the insurance mark "fell into it". ??
