Meet the Women of Genasys

As we celebrate Women's Month in South Africa, we're excited to introduce some of the incredible women at Genasys. Meet Nadia de Wet, our newly appointed Chief Operating Officer and find out what advice she has for women striving to succeed in their careers.

Can you describe your role at Genasys and what you find the most rewarding about your work?

As the Chief Operating Officer, I'm always looking for smarter, more effective ways to deliver, whilst preparing us for the future needs as the industry changes. Seeing our clients succeed and bringing the best out of our Genasys colleagues is incredibly rewarding.

What inspired you to pursue a career in your field, and how has the journey been so far?

I love a good challenge, so solving problems and improving how things work following an analytical approach sets a fire in my belly. Combined with the impact senior leaders have on those around them, contributed to me living my lifelong ambition of making a difference. I have been very privileged to work alongside some of the best leaders and have been given outstanding opportunities that have shaped me into the person I am today. Having a supportive partner has made this possible - he literally followed me around the world!

What are some of your hobbies or activities that you enjoy in your spare time?

As a mom of two little girls, with a full time senior role, my life is pretty full. I do make time with my family a priority and seeing my strong-willed girls grow has been so rewarding (and very challenging). I spend my free time with my family in nature or watching a good film.

As we celebrate Women's Month, what message or advice would you like to share with other women striving to succeed in their careers?

  • Mind-set is crucial and completely in your control. Invest in this as you will spend all of your time with yourself and no one else can do this but you!
  • If you don't ask, you don't get.
  • Own your development, no one cares as much about yourself as you do.
  • Stop using "I'm too busy" as an excuse, especially to yourself. You make time for what is important.
  • Always keep reinventing yourself. There is so much to learn and the world keeps changing.
  • Share the invisible load. Write it down so others in your support circle have sight of what you do and then have open conversations to share the load of life.

How do you think women in our industry can be better supported?

  • Call out bad behavior. It's the only way it will stop - when we all do it.
  • Share positive feedback. Trust me - most women are very hard on themselves and can certain do with encouragement.
  • Be understanding and flexible - life happens to everyone.
  • Support, don't judge. We never really know what is going on in other people's lives.

This was so inspiring to read, few things I've been lucky enough to hear from you personally, so lovely to see those values being consistent across your career journeys and being shared with others ????
