Meet the Winter 2022 Startups!

Our accelerator program is back for 2022, and we’re excited to welcome seven startups into our winter cohort today!

From a closed captioning smart badge to a health-monitoring toilet seat, these founders will experience hands-on mentorship and community with like-minded founders over the next eight weeks. Alongside their dedicated advisor, the startups will also gain rapid insight into the $8.3 trillion longevity economy and can tap into a breadth of resources like consumer insight tools, subject matter expertise, unique cohort-only events, business case development and more – all customized to meet their specific goals and needs.

Meet the Winter 2022 Cohort:?

Artifcts: We’re making it simple through our website and mobile app for you to capture and preserve the history, memories, and stories behind the objects of your life. You know the story. Does anyone else? Artifcting helps you contextualize your life experiences, meaningfully connect with others, and ensure your personal legacy lives on.?

Bequall: Bequall is an impact-driven company determined to address nationwide housing accessibility and affordability for singles and couples. We design modular housing systems for different density building types, including detached accessory dwelling units (backyard homes), multiplexes, and mid-rise multifamily developments.?

Care.Coach: Digital platform supporting consumers in the home through communication & care delivery

Casana: Casana is a healthcare technology startup with a mission to transform care management for the elderly with chronic health conditions, starting with in home hypertension management and cardiovascular disease. Our first product is The Heart Seat, a toilet seat that effortlessly measures blood pressure, sp02, and heart rate. The seat is battery powered, self contained, and functions just like a normal toilet seat. No behavior change required.?

Flowly: Flowly is a mobile VR platform to manage chronic pain.

Satellite Displays: Satellite Displays’ purpose is to improve communication through innovation.? We created Badger, the world’s first closed captioning smart badge to convert speech to text in real time.? Badger also translates speech to 50+ languages.? We are inspired to help all people overcome communication barriers.? Communication is a two-way street and Badger helps both the person speaking and the person listening. Whether you are deaf, have hearing loss, speak a different language or are wearing a mask, Badger can help.

Gameboard: Gameboard expands game night with instantly downloadable games that offer new experiences, including classic favorites, and enhanced gameplay with interactive physical game pieces. Gameboard establishes meaningful in-person and online connections. Especially right now, during the pandemic, everyone is more isolated, missing the meaningful connections we all need. Gameboard breaks the isolation barrier and let's you connect and play with friends and loved ones across the world through any device.

Interested in being apart of the next cohort? To be eligible for the program, you must enter an AARP Innovation Labs sponsored pitch event. From there, the startups that are selected to pitch at the event are considered eligible. The AARP Innovation Labs team carefully assesses and selects the startups that best exemplify AARP’s mission to empower people to choose how they live as they age and show potential business growth. Very cool! Satellite Displays (whose product, Badger, is the closed captioning smart badge) is one of my portfolio companies founded by one of my favorite entrepreneurs: the inimitable Peter Sprague, 83 years old and still going strong after having run companies from National Semiconductor to Aston Martin.
