Wave of Nostalgia in Haworth, the North of England’s Best Independent Bookshop has announced a schedule of events for the next few weeks which includes community events as well as fantastic author talks with Cathryn Kemp, Sairish Hussain, Rachel Bower and culminating in a book signing with Adelle Stripe.
The month kicks off with an LGBTQ+ coffee & book group at 11.30 on Sat 1st where the discussion will include plans for a first ever Haworth Pride this June.
On the evening of Thursday 6th February, award-winning bestselling author Cathryn Kemp, will tell all about her historical thriller ‘The Poisoner’s Tale’, a dark and gothic historical novel inspired by the true story of Giuia Tofana, the first documented female serial killer in history. It explores the realities of what it is like to be a woman who rebels against society and takes the reader on a tense, challenging but spellbinding journey.
On Thursday 20th at 7PM we are delighted to be helping launch Sairish Hussain’s ?latest paperback. Bradford-based Sairish is celebrated as one of the 10 most promising new writers in the UK.?‘Hidden Fires’ weaves an epic family tale that takes in the Partition of India and the Grenfell fire tragedy. It is a is a powerful & uplifting story of grief and loss, the power of family and the long arm of history.

The next event features Bradford-born Rachel Bower. At 7PM on Wednesday 26th Rachel, who has won many awards for her short stories will be launching her first novel. Infused with the folklore of Northern England, It Comes from the River is an unforgettable, uncanny debut about violence, resilience and hope - and the power of women when they work together
Hebden Bridge-based Adelle Stripe completes the lineup. Acclaimed author of Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile, Adelle’s new memoir?Base Notes, is told through a prism of vintage perfumes. A tragi-comic tale of working-class womanhood, it’s no clichéd story of redemption or escape, but instead a bleakly funny yet unflinching memoir of dead-end jobs, lost weekends, brief encounters and those wild, forgotten characters who slip through the cracks. At 2PM on Saturday 1st March she’ll be signing copies and chatting about her books.
Wave of Nostalgia owner Diane Park is excited about the upcoming programme. She says “We believe we have a great lineup of authors for this month as our programme gets into it’s stride for 2025. I’m particularly pleased as the year of culture picks up pace that we’re featuring three top quality locally-based authors in Sairish, Rachel and Adelle. I’d also like to put a call out to anyone in the area who’s interested in helping organise Haworth Pride to join us in the shop for a coffee on 1st February”. ?She adds “For anyone who can’t make it to Haworth many events will also be shared on Zoom”
