Meet Will Todd, Mortgage Broker

With the team having over 45 years of combined experience at Mortgage Choice in Arundel and Broadbeach, we are made up of a variety of backgrounds, professions, and reasons for doing what we do. So, who are the people that make up our mortgage broking business and what motivates them to help clients every day?

This instalment of our ‘Meet the Team’ series is a special one because it also an introduction to the newest member of our team. Will Todd has just recently joined our team, based at our Mortgage Choice in Arundel office.

Here’s a bit of background on our newest team member and mortgage broker, Will Todd…

Being born and bred in Christchurch, New Zealand, after finishing university and getting his Commerce Degree, Will played a few seasons of rugby union in Europe and the UK.

Following his last rugby season in Edinburgh, Will made his way to Australia for a holiday (via a couple of other continents) and ended up falling in love with the country, lifestyle, and his now-wife, Chanel.

After arriving on the Gold Coast, Will had a brief stint in recruitment before settling in with Flight Centre Travel Group. Will was with Flight Centre for 5 years in mostly corporate roles, including being a solutions-based strategic partner for SME business travel needs.

During his time with Flight Centre, Will was also featured in a few marketing campaigns, including airport billboards nationwide and some filming (watch out Beau, you may have some video competition!)

Of course, COVID-19 has had unfortunate impacts on the travel industry, so Will decided it was the right time to turn his experience into a new career in mortgage broking. After meeting with owner Darren Comerford, Will was convinced it was the right move, got his qualifications and is now full steam ahead!

We asked Will some questions to find out a little bit more about what motivates him...

What are some of your favourite things?

“Definitely spending time with my wife, Chanel, and our puppy Cleo. Also, I love rugby union and am actively involved in playing and coaching it, as well as watching it!

I usually also enjoy getting back to NZ when I can to see family and look forward to when we’ll be able to do that again. Travel is also something I’m passionate about, so that will be something I’ll be excited about when it’s possible.”

What would be your ‘last meal’?

“That's a tough one. I'm a sucker for good Mexican food, but as a Canterbury lad, I do love roast lamb. Wait, I can't forget lasagne. To be honest, I think my last meal would be a smorgasbord of all the good things I love!”

Why did you decide to become a mortgage broker?

“I love meeting and interacting with people from all walks of life; having a chat, hearing their story and helping them achieve their goals. For me, being a mortgage broker ticks the boxes of working with and helping people, as well as challenging me to find solutions to a multitude of scenarios in an industry that I am passionate about. I crave constant learning, and there is no shortage of that in the broking world!”

What do you enjoy most about being a mortgage broker?

“As cliché as it probably sounds, I genuinely love the feeling of helping people achieve something so amazing as home ownership, and in particular, I love helping first homeowners and families upgrading to their dream homes.”

What motivates you to do what you do?

“I come from an extremely competitive sporting background, so striving for success is well and truly in my nature. Plus, a lot of my motivation comes from my wife, she inspires me every day.”
