A Journey from Aerospace to Restoration

Todd’s professional journey began in aerospace, where he worked on the C-17 Military Cargo plane in Long Beach, California. However, after being laid off twice and recognizing that the industry was leaving the state, Todd sought a new path.

“I found a restoration contractor nearby that was hiring and entered the industry not knowing what to expect,” Todd recalls. “I started as a project coordinator responding to commercial emergency service calls affected by fire and water damages. I enjoyed setting up crews and equipment on jobs, especially during unfortunate circumstances, and being a professional helping people in their time of need.” That initial role sparked a passion for restoration that has carried Todd through the past 17 years.

?A Day in the Life of a Commercial Large Loss Estimator

Todd’s day-to-day responsibilities require a mix of technical expertise and seamless communication. “I schedule inspections, take measurements of buildings with tools like laser scanners or DocuSketch, write estimates using Xactimate, and follow up with adjusters and clients,” he explains. “I also collaborate with our project managers to ensure jobs are moving forward and work closely with our business development team to understand client needs.”

?Tackling Large Loss Projects

When it comes to estimating large losses, Todd approaches each project methodically, regardless of its size. “The size of the job dictates what’s needed, such as emergency services, temporary power, roofing, engineering, plumbing, HVAC, crews, equipment, and subcontractors” Todd says.

One of Todd’s most challenging projects involved restoring 65 rooms at a Residence Inn after Hurricane Irma. With a 50-person team, tight deadlines, and a change in property ownership, the project demanded exceptional coordination. “Signing the Certificate of Satisfaction was the best feeling ever,” he shares.

Making a Difference

Todd takes pride in understanding client needs and finding creative solutions. One memorable success story involved an embroidery business that depended on a quick recovery during the school season.

“We scheduled two shifts and calculated labor to get the business up and running as quickly as possible,” Todd says. “Daily communication ensured the client knew we were doing everything to minimize revenue loss.”
