Meet theScore Team
1?? What is your role at theScore?
I’ve been working at theScore for 15 years. I started in the IT department when theScore was a television network. After 13 years I began exploring a career change and was able to translate my experience and skills into a project manager role with the Human Resources team. I’m now the HR Operations Manager.?
2?? How would you describe theScore’s culture?
theScore’s culture is a friendly, engaging and fun environment. When faced with challenges, we all support and motivate each other to constructively work through them to deliver the best results. We’re growing at an exponential rate, but the common vision and goals of the team are still the same – to build the best products possible and engage sports fans across our award-winning platforms.
3?? Whether you’re talking to a friend or a potential job applicant, why do you recommend working at theScore?
First and foremost, our team is special. We come from different backgrounds and experiences which contributes to a welcoming and productive work environment. It’s also thrilling to be part of a cutting-edge company that has us positioned as a sports media, betting and technology leader. We’re always changing and adapting to the times of the world, whether it’s tech-wise or culture-wise. And to be honest, now is the most exciting time at the company with theScore media app and theScore Bet achieving respective milestones.
4?? What is your fondest memory working here?
Moving into the new Toronto office in 2013 after we split from the television side. It was a challenging task to get everything set up for 60-plus employees, but it was a team effort all around to get it done. Once we moved to the new office it was a short celebration, because as a startup, there was a lot of work to do.
We have grown so much over the last few years that we are getting ready to do it all over again in 2022 as we move into a beautiful new headquarters in the newly-constructed Waterfront Innovation Centre in downtown Toronto.
5?? When you’re not working, what are you doing?
Mostly living that dad life. Coaching my kids’ baseball team, taking them to and from sports and going on vacations with the family. For myself, I’m busy with projects around the house, grilling food and trying out new recipes on my smoker.
6?? What music are you listening to these days?
My kids listen to a lot of pop music, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I sing along to Justin Bieber and Drake in the car. Give me any tunes from the 80's or 90's and I’m all in. However, most of the time I enjoy listening to podcasts. theScore’s Pound the Rock, How I Built This with Guy Raz, Freakonomics, Science Versus, This American Life, Heavyweight and fun ones like Tigerbelly with Bobby Lee.
7?? When you open Instagram and look at your Explore page, what three main categories do you see?
Food first, as I’m always looking at cooking videos that I’ll probably never attempt myself. Then woodworking / DIY stuff followed by basketball highlights.
8?? What words do you live by??
It might sound cliche, but the golden rule: ‘Treat others as one wants to be treated’. It’s not just a good practice to do at work. The golden rule is something that I was taught as a child, and still practice in my everyday life.

3 年Still have super strong emotions watching the best in the business grow into such a beautiful flower. ?TheScore is such a great place to work and Gil has had a huge part in making it that way. ?Always making sure people were taken care of! ?What surprises me the most is Gil mentions nothing of his wife in this interview, ?he’s always talking about how awesome she is at work. ?I’m suspecting he didn’t want to embarrass her.
