Stewart Haston in action!

Introducing Eleven’s newest hire, bringing with him more than a decade of experience in marketing and editorial positions, predominantly in the international tech industry. At Eleven International Stewart Haston currently focuses on content marketing for our client, Nreal.

Stewart has called Taipei home for more than twenty years, spanning a remarkable period of innovation, technology and culture in the region.

Q: Let’s start big: Tablet or Laptop? Bicycle or Scooter? Hot Pot or KBBQ? Dogs or cats?

Hmm.. I would have to say Desktop PC, two feet, beef noodles and definitely cats (we have two).

Q: How and when did you start working with Eleven?

I started at Eleven about a month ago, but first spoke to Francis and Camilla about six months or so prior to that. Our initial contact was really great, and I got a very positive vibe right from the start.

Q: What would you say is the best thing about working at Eleven International?

I’ve always been a tech geek at heart, so I really enjoy working with clients that are on the forefront of their respective product segments. I’ve seen a great deal of change over the years, which has helped me develop a broad appreciation for just how far technology has come, and just how far it could go in the future. It still excites me to be in a position where I get to articulate that future.

Q: How would you describe the team at Eleven International, in their professional capacities or otherwise?

Well, this is actually my first gig in a PR agency. In previous roles I was often on the other side of the client/agency relationship, so the last month has been very eye-opening for me. However, in that time with Eleven, I’ve quickly gained a very real appreciation of how competent and dedicated all members of the team are. It feels fantastic to be a part of that.

Q: Balancing work and home life can be difficult, especially when working from home. Do you have any thoughts (insights) about how remote work culture could be made more manageable?

Working from home might sound idyllic to some, but the reality is that you can often feel a little penned in. I’m fortunate that I have my own office space in my apartment, which means when I close that door for the day, my working day is pretty much over. It’s also crucial to get out of the home (or the office) when you can. Take breaks, go for walks, even if you have to find an excuse to do so.

I probably boil the kettle five or six times a day. It means I get to stand up, walk around the apartment, stretch a bit and maybe have a chat with my cats, which helps when I’m trying to formulate ideas. When it comes to content creation, I think you need to refresh your perspective several times a day to get your thought processes flowing right. Lot’s of green tea also helps!

Q: What emerging technology makes you the most excited, and which should everyone watch out for?

The emergence of VR and AR will fundamentally alter the way we live, interact with each other, and how we play. And then there’s AI. When these two technologies truly converge, it’s going to get very, very interesting.

Q: What are you currently reading/listening to that is getting you excited about emerging tech?

I listen to a lot of podcasts and try to vary the playlist as much as possible to make sure I’m aware of what’s going on in science and tech (and English football of course). Most of my reading these days is done online - the usual tech news, reviews, and editorial stuff. Too many to mention here. If I pick up a book, it’s usually fiction and a form of escapism for me.

Q: Do you have any cheeky travel tips for friends thinking of visiting your adopted home, Taipei?

Well.. firstly I’d say make sure you do visit Taipei if you have the chance. It's an incredible city and pretty unique in several ways, not least because the people here are so very friendly. I’ve felt very welcome and at home since day one really.?

In terms of trips, make sure you see the island as your destination, not just the major cities (although Taipei is pretty awesome). You’ll find some of the scenery on the East coast really breathtaking, and if you like mountains, there are plenty of those too. It’s also good to remember that each region has its own culinary traditions. There’s so much fantastic food to try!

Q: With more than a decade of experience in marketing, PR and editorial positions in the International Tech industry. How have you seen the industry change, and where do you think it’ll go in the next 5 years?

Wow. That’s a tough one. The industry has changed enormously since I started out, but if there’s one thing I have definitely learned, it's that predictions seldom come true.
