Meet the Team – Neil Finnie

In the lead up to the 15th Buccleuch Property Challenge we are sharing some memories, insights and all-important top tips from the Buccleuch Property team. Our Director, Neil Finnie , joined in 2017 initially taking the laid-back approach but soon found his competitive side and is currently one of our reigning champions (with team Going for Silver). A definite contender for the inaugural Buccleuch Cup, Neil shares his experiences here.

1.??????How many BP Challenges have you taken part in??

2023 will be my fifth event.

2.??????How do you prepare for the big day??

By getting up early and eating as much as I can manage at breakfast before the event starts! Before my first Challenge I did a combination of Couch to 5k and a few local cycles - you do spend most of your time on the bike so worth getting some practise in if you can. As it turned out, my inaugural teammate’s pre-event declarations of “I don’t do training” really did mean he did no training, so I was fine on the day. There’s no right or wrong way to do the Challenge.

3.??????Tell us about a memorable moment at the Challenge.?

Having to spend the night before the big event sleeping in my car because my roommate’s snoring was just so loud.

4.??????For you, what is the best thing about the Challenge?

Getting out of your comfort zone and, regardless of how long it takes or how many activities you take part in, the sense of achievement when you cross the finish line.

5.??????What is your number one top tip for competitors??

Keep your height – shortest distance between points doesn’t always mean it is the easiest or fastest way to go.

6.??????What should first-time competitors expect?

A very well run, friendly and enjoyable day out.?

7.??????The Challenge features secret activities revealed on the day – what are you hoping to see this time around?

I know what I don’t want to see – any eating challenges or activities in confined spaces thank you very much!
