1 - Tell us a bit about yourself, you education and background

I grew up in Tasmania and moved over to Victoria in 2013. After finishing school, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I ended up doing a traineeship, which got me a qualification in information technology. After that, I tried several jobs from plumber to pizza delivery driver. I then pursued one of my hobbies and played bass in a metal band! Unfortunately, we weren’t good enough to pursue this as a career, probably for the best so I ended up studying primary teaching at university. This was very short-lived. Having a background in I.T., I decided to apply for a junior technician role at Cabinets by Computer in 2017 and I haven’t looked back since!

I’ve always been interested in I.T., so it’s great to be able to do this for a career. I’ve also had the opportunity to wear a few different hats at CBC which has led me into a role I am passionate about which is the Help Desk & Customer Support Manager.

2 - Describe your role at CBC?

On a day-to-day basis, I will handle all our inbound customer support enquiries, and triage any support issues to the support team. I also mentor the support team to ensure we’re adhering to our Service Level Agreement (SLA). In saying this, being the help desk manager doesn’t just mean managing the help desk & support team. I also assist the QA team with testing new software updates, and help out the Sales & Marketing team when needed.

3 - What is the best thing about working at CBC?

There are too many to list, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be that coming in every morning does not feel like I’m going to work. The culture at Cabinets by Computer is priceless and I’ve also been able to try a few different roles to find one that works best for me. The learning opportunities are endless and the team are all very knowledgeable. We’re also very fortunate to have a roast lunch most Fridays, along with a monthly table tennis competition, which gets very competitive.

4 - What is the most memorable advice you've ever received?

A phrase that is now engraved into my brain by the team is?“slow down to go faster” which means sometimes you've got to hold yourself back and consciously slow yourself down to ultimately GO FASTER. I remember back when I started at CBC, I was always focusing on doing 100 things at once to make sure there were not any outstanding tasks, and would always make little mistakes that would come back to me, or someone would pick up on straight away. After slowing down, and taking the time to get it right the first time, I found myself not making nearly as many mistakes, and not having to go back and fix them! It also allows you to pick up on things that you may have missed by taking a step back.

5 - Cats or dogs, and why?

My family have always had both, but I’ve always gravitated towards cats. I think it’s because they tend to be a bit more independent. In saying that, I have two very needy kittens, Siren & Eevee.
