Meet the Team - Judy

In the lead up to the 15th Buccleuch Property Challenge we are sharing some memories, insights and all-important top tips from the Buccleuch Property team. Our Asset Management Director, Judy George , is a relative newcomer to the Challenge but as a wild-swimming triathlete with a talent for baking she is certainly a sought-after teammate! Here, she fills us in on her experience of the Challenge so far.

1.??????How many BP Challenges have you taken part in?

Just the one in 2021. I did the course on an e-bike but discovered they are heavy so not necessarily an advantage! This year I am joining an all-girls team with my colleagues Louisa and Lizzie and looking forward to it, on a regular bike this time!

2.??????How do you prepare for the big day?

Coinciding with the Challenge, I do a few personal challenges which compliment some of the activities such as cycling and running. But just as important as that is assessing which snacks to take for the day! Also making sure I am prepared for all weathers with layers and sunscreen. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

3.??????Tell us about a memorable moment at the Challenge.

There was a steep hill loop on the course and my teammates Paul and Phil were keen to do it, I however, was not! So I waited for them, had a rest, a snack and a catch up with other competitors who stopped to check in. It showed me that while the competition is there you can still design your own day and do as much or as little as you will enjoy.

4.??????For you, what is the best thing about the Challenge?

The people –the competitors, marshals, the event team and supporters make it. It’s a great day with a good atmosphere, lots of camaraderie and a bit of healthy competition.

5.??????What is your number one top tip for competitors?

Choose your team wisely, make sure that you are matched in your expectations for the day and keep communicating.

6.??????What should first-time competitors expect?

A really well run event with clear information and support on the day, you are never on your own. Even though there are secret activities the Race Briefing in the morning makes it really clear what to do. You’ll have a good fun day and expect to be tired but happy at the end.

7.??????The Challenge features secret activities revealed on the day – what are you hoping to see this time around?

Anything in the water – a nice swim in the loch. Oh and axe-throwing again, there should always be an opportunity to throw an axe!

8.??????Is there anything else you would like to see at the Challenge?

Yes, we have a women’s category which always has a few teams but I’d love to see this grow and give the boys’ teams a run for their money.
