Meet the Team - Jack Whitehead
WORKING FOR STENA
How long have you worked for Stena Drilling? 15 months
What is your role? Motorman on Stena Don
What made you choose Stena Drilling?
I have always worked within the Stena Sphere and was a cadet and 4th engineer with Northern Marine. I wanted to further my engineering knowledge so decided to apply for a job at Stena Drilling to work with new equipment and systems.
What's the best thing about your job?
The hands on experience and working with experienced engineers, as this allows me to further my own knowledge and progress my own engineering abilities.
YOUR CAREER
Tell us about your career path:
At the age of 17 I became a cadet and moved to Glasgow to study for my 4th engineers license. From there I went on to be a 4th engineer for 2 years in Stena Northern Marine working on different tankers, gas carriers and Oil chemical vessels.
After 2 years there I applied for a new job in Stena Drilling, given the limited equipment on my previous vessels and wanting to further my knowledge with the vast amount of equipment and systems located on the vessels within the company I was able to do that.
I hope to some day become a Chief Engineer as this has always been my end goal, however for the moment I am focusing on stepping up to a mechanics position by familiarizing myself with the job and equipment as well as the general responsibilities of the job.
What is the best advice you've ever been given?
That nothing worth having comes easy and you can only better yourself as well as make advances in your career through hard work and dedication. If it’s difficult to get to where you want to be in the end it will all seem worth it.
ABOUT YOU
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I like to take part in airsoft tournaments and events with a large group of friends. Most of my time off is spent going for long walks with my dog and just generally spending time with him once I get back.
What are your 3 favourite books?
Offshore Safety (HSE) Radio Officer, 13 Years experience

1 年Dear coleague word of advice..learn proper sizes of bolts as i can see that your "weapon of choice" is shifting spanner a.k.a. monkey wrench. And any motorman/mechanic/engineer MUST know the size of bolt head as soon it take a good look at it. Anyway i hope you learn on easy way as hard way is:pinched fingers, destroyed bolt etc etc. God speed and best of luck!
