Meet the team: HR and Volunteering Administrator

Welcome to our new weekly series meeting members of the Brooklands Museum team. We want to showcase some of the real people who keep the Museum running behind the scenes.

To kick off our first ever interview, we are chatting with Alex Kuner, HR & Volunteering Administrator. It is National Apprenticeships week so we are celebrating Alex, who started her journey at Brooklands Museum as an Apprentice, she recently passed all her exams with a distinction and is now a full-time member of team!

What is your role at Brooklands?

I act as the administrator and problem solver for all of our online systems such as People HR, our employee / HR system, our staff benefits site (reward hub), our staff training / e-learning site (My Teams Charity Learning), and our volunteering system (Better Impact).

I’m also responsible for all of the admin related to the employee life cycle – for example on boarding new starters, arranging interviews, keeping files of all staff and carrying out file audits, sorting out leavers and carrying out right to work checks. I also monitor and respond to any emails coming into our recruitment and volunteer inboxes.

Basically anything that’s admin related for the HR / Volunteers!

What would a typical day or week look for you?

No two days are the same – there’s a lot of variety, which I love! My typical day will involve answering any queries in the inboxes, and helping with any problems that any of our staff or volunteers have with any of our online systems.

What is the best part of your job?

The variety, it’s never a boring day!

What part of the Museum is your favourite or what story from Brooklands history is your favourite?

My favourite part of the Museum is the Barnes Wallis Strat Chamber!

What is your top memory of working at Brooklands so far?

My highlight of working at Brooklands Museum so far is probably getting to help change the tyres on a real Formula 1 car.

I think it’s great that Brooklands offer apprenticeships. Hoping this will be continued in even more areas throughout the museum. Well done Alex, you put in the hard work and your results showed this.
