Q1. Where and when did your interest in vendor management begin?
The interest began in college.? I took one buying course while pursuing by MBA, which sparked my curiosity. After speaking with the professor, I learned a little more about the career and which paths to take.

Q2. What are some of the top criteria you use to evaluate and select vendors to work with?
The most important question is - Does the product match our target customer? If we determine that there is a need, we then review other factors like quality, price, features, minimums, etc.

Q3. What are some of the biggest challenges you face in managing a diverse range of vendors?
Since we have over 6k brands/vendors on our site, it's very difficult to connect with them all. Also, food trends change very quickly.?We try to stay up to date?with the latest trends and find vendors that fill the need.
Q4. What are a few of the most important day-to-day tasks in your role?
My team connects with manufacturers and brands on a daily basis. We ensure Food Service Direct has the most up to date product offering, product content, and images. Also, if a manufacturer has a promotional program we always pass this along to the customer.? Achieving the lowest price for the customer is one of our main goals.

Q5. What advice would you give to someone looking to get into vendor management??
It's a very fulfilling career and no day is the same.?Careers/jobs in merchandising, buying, and sales will help prepare for this role. Be prepared to travel and network.?Building connections with partners outside of the organization is key.
