Next on our - Meet the Team - series is Cecilia Acosta Martinez. Cecilia was first put in touch with Kindred Motorworks when a few of our other team members entered her family business in search of a local company to complete the interior of the Volkswagen bus. They saw the amazing craft work Cecilia and her family was doing and soon after offered them an in-house position to continue their craft with our company.?

KINDRED: What is your position at Kindred Motorworks and what does a typical work day look like for you?

CECILIA: I work as an Upholstery Production specialist at Kindred Motorworks. A typical day for me involves overseeing the production process for all upholstery items. My day starts with reviewing the production schedule and ensuring that all necessary materials and equipment are available. I then supervise the production team; providing them guidance and support to ensure that production targets are met. Throughout the day, I also check in with my wonderful manager, and attend regular meetings with all the departments to assure that we are on task and working proficiently. Overall, my role is essential in ensuring that the company meets it's production targets while maintaining high quality standards.

KINDRED: What brought you to Kindred Motorworks?

CECILIA: I first met Joey and John McGinn when they visited my family business in search of a local company to complete the interior of the Volkswagen bus. From there on, I saw the wonderful things the company was accomplishing, and continues to do so. So when they offered me the job as production specialist, the only right answer was yes! I am very grateful to be a part of the team.

KINDRED: What do you love most about what you do?

CECILIA: I feel lucky to have the opportunity to push myself to my full potential here at Kindred. My job is my passion! I am very grateful to work with such an amazing team that both challenges and supports me. At the end of a long day, I go home feeling accomplished.

KINDRED: What was your first vehicle?

CECILIA: My first vehicle was a 1986 GMC Sierra 1500.

KINDRED: What is your dream vehicle?

CECILIA: My dream vehicle is a Chevy Apache 1958.

KINDRED: What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

CECILIA: A perfect day off for me looks like spending time with my family. I love taking my 12 year old daughter shopping. At home I love to cook, and teach my daughter our family recipes.

KINDRED: Do you have a favorite road trip or route that you have taken? Tell us a little about it!

CECILIA: This is a difficult question for me because I have so many favorite routes. Some of my contenders are a trip to Las Vegas I-5 and Santa Monica route 38. But I definitely would have to say my favorite trip I have taken was to Saint George, Utah. It’s a gorgeous drive, passing by Death Valley, Nevada, and a corner of Arizona. The red rocks against the blue river is like nothing I have ever seen before.

KINDRED: What is your favorite or has been your favorite Kindred lunch so far?

CECILIA: I am very grateful to Kindred for providing delicious meals ranging from many different cultures. It’s difficult to pick a favorite. Kindred Lunch is amazing! No complaints.

KINDRED: What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

CECILIA: Right now, I have been working on reupholstering the recaro seats for the new Bronco. I love working on the classic cars, researching the original interiors, and giving them a modern but timeless Kindred twist. The process has been amazing.

KINDRED: Do you have a dream vehicle you would like to see in the Kindred lineup? What is it and why?

CECILIA: A vehicle I would want to see in the Kindred lineup would have to be the Chevy Apache 1958. My husband owned one as a project car, but never had the chance to finish working on it. I would love to see Kindred’s twist, and design the upholstery, for one of my all time favorite cars.

KINDRED: What does “enjoying the ride” mean/look like to you?

CECILIA: Enjoying the ride to me means living in the moment. Appreciating the good in life and letting go of the unpleasant things you have no control over.. Staying true to yourself and knowing in the end, everything always works out.

Mr. Formosa. I have thought about you from time to time. You were really good to me. Even though Toti Thurninberg caught me in your office mocking her. Val Strough of Albany Volkswagen, Subaru. After Val Strough I went to work for Toyota of Berkeley and told some manager named Steve to go fuck himself. After 6 weeks. I went to work for Jim Doten Honda. Anyways I had the highest CSI score on every vehicle I sold in the history of Toyota of Berkeley. Go figure.
