MEET THE TEAM – Campus Edition

We recently welcomed our young folks joining us straight from top campuses to AlphaGrep’s global offices. This transition from campus to corporate has always been a challenging journey, with the environment drastically changing around.

AlphaGrep has been attentive towards arranging the training programs to encourage the growth and enthusiasm of our employees. An intriguing conversation took place with one of our recent employees who recently graduated from IIT Kharagpur.? Amay Varma has joined the Infra team at our Mumbai office. He shared his thoughts and introspected over how these times would later become his early career years!

Here’s sharing a snippet of the interview!

How has your journey been so far, transitioning from campus to corporate?

It's been quite interesting! There's a certain level of professionalism, etiquette and sensitivity that the corporate setup has which I'm beginning to slowly get a grip of. I've been used to a candid and frank environment in college and I'm gradually getting used to being efficient and mindful with my actions and words.

You interned with us during your senior college year! How was your experience working here last summer?

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship experience at AlphaGrep in the summer of 2022. Being provided with a generous stipend, accommodation, food and travel made it easy for me to pay all of my attention to my work and professional growth. What I found most fascinating about the company culture was how it managed to evoke a sense of responsibility and accountability in me without micro-management, hard deadlines or strict work timings.

Did you receive training or assistance while you were working on independent projects?

AlphaGrep's seniors were always approachable and kind whenever it came to my technical doubts. Watching my mentor's software engineering brain tick and effortlessly solve my problems consistently made him my first professional role model to aspire to be like. I was never spoon-fed but was always encouraged to ask for whatever help I needed in my projects. This, in my opinion, was the perfect balance for me to learn optimally!

Is there anything that stood out for you to choose AlphaGrep?

Seeing AlphaGrep's growth in employee count and business avenues has been very exciting! I was thrilled at the prospect of being a part of AlphaGrep's energy and growth journey. AlphaGrep's open-desk, meritocratic and flexible culture coupled with its high compensation and top talent made it the perfect place for an ambitious person like me at the beginning of my career.

Any advice for future interns?

I'd advise future interns to learn via osmosis every day from everyone around them. It's not often that you get to be around some of the smartest technical minds in the country. Completing your project well is important, but it could be beneficial to understand how your piece of code fits into the larger scheme of things. To quote Steve Jobs - At AlphaGrep, I try to wake up every day reminding myself to, "Stay hungry, stay foolish"

Sometimes it goes beyond the metaphor and I skip meals engrossed in work and act beyond merely foolish with my programming bugs - I'm working on it.
