Meet the team: Arian Davis, Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Tēnā koe Arian, thanks for making the time to kōrero with us!

First off, can you tell us a bit about what you do here at NHC?

I’m the Marketing and Communications coordinator. I do loads of social media, both the fun trends and the educational health posts. I love it, because I get to interact with so many different parts of our mahi and personally am learning so much about the healthcare sector.

What initially attracted you to join NHC??

I’m a fundraiser by trade or as I like to call myself a Koha Hōha lol, so Comms and Marketing is new to me but also very familiar. When I saw the Kaupapa of Mana whānau, whānau ora I knew immediately NHC was the place for me to grow my skillset, fine tune it and simultaneously help whānau away from having to always have that final “ask”.

?

What’s the best thing about working at NHC??

The kai ?? jokes... It’s how everyone works towards our goal of empowering whānau from many different directions Research, in the community, through our clinics, the list goes on.

?

If your job had a theme song, what would it be and why?

Māori hangi by Dennis Marsh haha- For me my roll can change from one thing to the next but always to feed our whānau matauranga and keep them together.

?

Being Matariki what whetū aligns with you currently?

There are 3 for me. Waitī and waitā?because like water it changes shape and flows around things and finds the secret paths no one else has thought about - Water can carve its way even through stone...and when trapped, water makes a new path. I also feel tau when in the moana or awa. Pōhutukawa, because in the last 2 years I’ve experienced great loss in my whānau, when I look to Pōhutukawa I’m reminded that they are amongst our whetū shining down on us all.

?

If you could trade jobs with anyone else in the company for a week, who would it be and why??

Our Tikanga advisors! It has always been a dream of mine to be completely immersed in te ao Māori. Watching them support us all in different places of our journey is inspiring and for me Rangatira mahi.

?

What’s something that stands out to you, being a part of a kaupapa Māori organisation?

Manaakitanga. It’s the core of who we are. To serve others and create an equitable environment wherever we are. I’m proud to be Māori and even more proud to work in an hauora space that values equity.
