Newton is a magical place and we wanted to introduce you to some of the people who make it so awesome. This week, we asked Anton to talk about what his role entails at Newton. We know you’re curious!

What is your role at Newton?

I'm a Software Engineer L1.

What is the best part of your role?

The best part of my role is getting to code, which I love, while collaborating with brilliant Newtonians (co-workers) to make a meaningful impact in the dynamic world of cryptocurrency.

If you could describe Newton’s culture in 3 words, how would you describe it?

Ambitious, Inspiring, and Enthusiastic.

What would you say to someone looking to apply to Newton?

I would say go for it! Make sure to keep your technical skills sharp and immerse yourself in the crypto space. Engaging with Newton can really help you get up to speed and feel right at home quickly.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love spending time with friends and family, playing video games, and staying active with sports or physical activities like basketball or longboarding.

How do you find working remotely?

I find working remotely to be fantastic. I can create my ideal workspace, avoid the daily commute, and enjoy the flexibility and comfort of working from home. This setup not only boosts my productivity but also helps me find a healthy work-life balance.

What is a fun fact about you?

One fun fact about me is that I played on the League of Legends esports team while studying Software Development in post secondary.

What is a key feature of the best home office?

A reliable coffee maker or kettle is a major key.

What has your journey been like with Newton?

So far, my journey at Newton has been rewarding but not without its challenges. It began while I was still in post secondary school when my group and I chose Newton as the client for our capstone project. Collaborating with Newton employees, users, and stakeholders, we outlined requirements and established clear guidelines for a minimum viable product. With minimal supervision, we developed an educational mock cryptocurrency trading platform that allows users of all experience levels to practice trading using mock fiat and cryptocurrencies. It was a tall task, but our excitement and enthusiasm for working with Newton made it an incredible learning experience, leading me to where I am today as a Newton Software Engineer L1!

How do you face challenges in your day to day work at Newton?

I face challenges at Newton with a proactive mindset. Development work often involves overcoming new obstacles, so I often start by scoping out the challenge to understand the goals, familiarize myself with relevant resources, and then proceed with the best approach I see fit. However, if my judgment is off anywhere along the line, I know I have plenty of guidance and support to help me get back on track and overcome the challenge.

How do you approach new challenges at Newton?

As an L1 Software Engineer, my go-to strategy for overcoming new challenges in my day-to-day work is to ask plenty of questions when I'm uncertain and seek help when I feel blocked by something. Additionally, I make a conscious effort to take notes on how I've resolved new challenges in the past, and use those experiences to help me tackle similar problems independently and continuously improve my skills.
