I sat down with some of our interns from this past semester to learn more about their experience working at League.???

Anne: Please tell me a bit about your professional journey at League and what you’ve been working on during your internship with us!?

Kapil : I’ve been working as a backend developer on the employer experience team which supports the human resources administrators that we work very closely with. It's really great to track visibility into items like spending activity and benefits usage data. I’ve also conducted lots of testing in my role which has been an interesting experience. I’ve also worked cross-functionally with our operations team. During my internship, I’ve really felt a sense of ownership.

Rayan : I’ve been a member of the data engineering team where I got exposed to working with different forms of data coming from an array of sources, like our partners. This work helps other teams at League analyze data and leverage it as needed. I got to work with various data engineering tools like Cloud Composer , Terraform , BigQuery , and a few other Google Cloud Platform (GCP) products. It’s been really great to learn about cloud technology, create scalable pipelines and leverage awesome data! I’ve also had the opportunity to get exposure to various internal stakeholders while working on different initiatives with League’s operations and rewards team.?

Anne: What really stood out to you during your time here at League?

Rayan: 100% the people! I have received lots of meaningful advice from my manager, mentor and other incredible Leaguers. If I ever needed to ask a question, I was able to ask my team (or another Leaguer!) for clarity. They were absolutely amazing to help me get hands-on experience and product knowledge. I love the people here at League. They’ve really challenged me with the work that I’ve been doing, so I am able to work on projects that are exciting to me and align with my goals.?

Kapil: I would have to second Rayan and also say the people at League are amazing! I had lots of support throughout my internship from people who were willing to help me, whether that was by hopping on calls or setting me up for success! League has a hybrid model of work, so I was able to go into the office a few times! There are tons of great perks, amenities and wonderful people to meet in real life. League has a great culture far beyond my immediate team.?

Anne: In just a few words, how would you sum up your experience now that you’ve been with us for almost 4 months?

Rayan: Impactful, culture, collaborative and mentorship.?

Kapil: Transparent, inviting and ownership.

Anne: What was the highlight of your co-op experience at League?

Rayan: There are two things that really stood out to me. One was having the ability to present my data architecture work during a knowledge sharing session. Going from having zero knowledge at the beginning of my work term to then being able to present on it speaks volumes to the trust that the team has given to me. Secondly, I had full ownership of two large projects which was incredible in a short time period. I also got a chance to deploy my projects on Google’s Cloud Composer and VertexAI .

Kapil: I was able to be a sprint captain for one of the team sprints. It was cool to see that Leaguers were eager for me to have this opportunity. It was a great learning opportunity when it came to project management. I was able to step outside of my comfort zone and learn a lot.?

Anne: What is a word of advice you might want to share with an incoming co-op student?

Rayan: Do what you’re best at and try to minimize what you’re bad at so you can thrive in areas that you like to make the most impact. Ask a lot of questions along the way and be proactive! ?I would definitely recommend pursuing a career at League. We are doing some exciting work here with the latest technology.

Kapil: Be willing to voice your opinion, express your interest and understand the expectations your team has of you. The more proactive you are, the better your experience will be!?

Anne: What are some things that you’ve been able to do outside of your day job?

Kapil: I was able to join some employee resource group (ERG) discussions on mentorship and other topics that relate to me on a personal level. It was a great way to meet other Leaguers outside of my team. I also had a mentor which was great to be able to seek advice to grow in my career and hear other’s experiences.?

Rayan: I also enjoyed working closely with my mentor and my manager. I was able to participate in the weekly product reviews to get exposure to different work happening across the broader team at League. I was able to meet many Leaguers for coffee chats, which was a fun way to learn more about different teams, build connections and understand folks' career journeys.?
