A Day in the Life of a Solutions Engineer

Q: Can you tell us about your role at Nashua Pietermaritzburg and what a typical day looks like for you??

Samantha: As a Solutions Engineer, my day begins with check-ups and updates on our sensitive clients. I’m usually out of the office by 8 a.m., attending support calls or handling installations when needed. It’s a hands-on role that requires both technical expertise and the ability to think on your feet.

The Journey to Nashua

Q: What motivated you to join Nashua Pietermaritzburg, and what has your journey been like since you started?

Samantha: My journey with Nashua began when I did my in-service training here during college. I quickly realised there was so much to learn, so when I was called back after I graduated, I jumped at the opportunity. My journey has been one of constant learning and growth, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to expand my skill set.

Balancing Professional and Personal Life

Q: How do you balance your professional responsibilities with your personal life, especially if you have family commitments?

Samantha: I believe in being fully present, whether at work or at home. When I’m at work, I focus on work, and when I’m home, I focus on family. That being said, there are times when I take work home, simply because there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done, but I try my best to maintain a healthy balance.

Overcoming Challenges as a Woman in Business

Q: Have you faced any challenges as a woman in your role, and how have you overcome them?

Samantha: Absolutely. Working in a male-dominated industry, I’ve faced criticism for being a woman in the field. My team, however, has been incredibly supportive. By building a strong performance track record and having confidence in my abilities, I’ve been able to overcome these challenges.

Proud Accomplishments at Nashua Pietermaritzburg?

Q: What accomplishments are you most proud of during your time at Nashua Pietermaritzburg?

Samantha: I’m proud of the progress I’ve made from starting with remote calls and installing Proact remotely for clients to now working in the field. I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge and earned certifications in PABX, VBX, CCTV, Access Control, Alarm, and Software.

Memorable Projects and Experiences

Q: Can you share a memorable experience or project you've worked on at Nashua Pietermaritzburg?

Samantha: I’ve had the opportunity to work on several memorable projects, including a few PaperCut implementations and two major CCTV projects. They were challenging sites to work on, but I learnt a great deal working on them alongside my team.

Advice for Aspiring Female Leaders in Tech

Q: What advice would you give to other women aspiring to take on leadership roles in the tech industry?

Samantha: Don’t downplay your achievements. Be confident in your abilities and the value you bring to the table. Be bold, resilient, and persistent, and you can pave the way for both yourself and future generations of women leaders.
