It’s not an easy task to grow a whole following, tribe, community, (or whatever you want to call your brand advocates). So, when someone in a similar field does it and does it to the point that even you’re murmuring, “What the heck am I NOT doing that I’m not getting the same response ,” you stop and pay attention.
There are thought leaders out there where you may feel that you are either a dollar sign or a waste of her time. True, her system works. She’s likely making six to seven figures and is great at what she does, but there’s a disconnect between herself and the people who thought they’d be able to connect with the woman behind the embellished mask of expert branding, the game of marketing, and a fresh gel manicure. Though she has legions of followers, the truth is only a select few are high-paying customers that produce the majority of her income. Some of those followers are truly lurkers. They’ll never buy anyway, and some have the ability to pay, but not so much the willingness because of the disconnect they feel. Enter you.
Perhaps you are well on your way to being a six to seven figure thought leader, but you haven’t lost your soul to the almighty dollar. People can feel that oozing from your online persona. And they want the real deal.
So, if your people haven’t found you yet (and this is a large world), go out and meet their needs where they may be feeling that disconnect. Listen and listen well and be the differentiator they’ve been searching for. Listen in online groups, listen via your Google Analytics, listen at networking lunches, and listen to your heart when you ask yourself ‘what questions is no one in my industry willing to tackle?’ and then free up space to create.
By letting go of mundane marketing activities that help with the bottom line yet clog up precious RGAs (Revenue Generating Activities) time, (things like that one hour a week of scheduling your own online marketing messages) leverage a support team so you can stop hiding behind the defense shield i.e. reactive marketing and share your amazing gifts with those who haven’t clue who you are but have been looking for you this entire time.
Just remember that your tribe isn’t everyone. And that is okay! Because there is opportunity when we connect from an authentic space rather than trying to gobble up any bite when can get.
So as we are heading deep into the summer and vacation season take the time to really hone in on which groups you need to use the superpower of bionic hearing on, and later create a program or service to specifically address a need you clearly identified within those select groups and set very specific, very targeted marketing campaigns around.
Cheers to an amazing 2nd half of the year and marketing that gets you results!
