Meet Paul (“Pauly”) Graham – A Story of Growth and Opportunity at Rentco

On a recent journey from Perth to Darwin, our National Equipment Manager, Ross Cunningham, witnessed a moment that perfectly captures the Rentco spirit. This is Pauly’s story.

Pauly joined our team in 2019, starting out in the wash bay, washing equipment. He quickly mastered the art of driving trucks, confidently moving trailers in and out of tight spaces. Recognising his potential, we promoted him from wash bay attendant to yard hand, where he excelled at guiding trailers with ease, even in the trickiest of spots.

As Pauly’s capabilities expanded, we supported him in obtaining his HR license, enabling him to manage truck deliveries and pickups. But his ambition didn’t stop there, he went on to earn his MC license as well.

When a trip to Darwin came up, Ross entrusted Pauly with towing two trailers to the hook-up area in Wubin, 265 km from Perth, while Ross brought the third trailer and dolly to complete the triple setup. Upon arrival, Ross asked Pauly to carefully position his prime mover, detach it, and reverse a trailer and dolly under the other two to complete the triple road train, a task Pauly handled with ease. Ross proudly captured the moment, snapping a photo of Pauly standing in front of the triple combination to share with family and friends.

But the excitement didn’t end there. Ross surprised Pauly by asking him to drive the full triple road train up the highway to get the feel of what it was like while Ross took over Pauly’s truck. Thrilled by this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Pauly drove about 10 kilometres before they pulled over. With a huge smile, Pauly hopped back into his own truck for the return trip to Perth, bucket list item checked!

Meanwhile, Ross continued on to Darwin. Ross commented, “We couldn’t be prouder of Pauly’s journey and are thrilled to help him fulfil his dreams. At Rentco, we’re committed to giving our people the chance to grow and reach their full potential, and I’m certain this won’t be the last time we see Pauly behind the wheel of a triple combination”.
