Meet Our Team: Louisa Burwood-Taylor

As part of our celebration of 10 years in agrifoodtech, we're introducing you to some of the faces behind AgFunder. First up our fearless Media & Research leader, Louisa Burwood-Taylor ...

Many, many of you probably already know Louisa, but did you know she started her career as a financial journalist, writing about bonds and equities and later securing a role as editor of a Financial Times publication before switching to agrifoodtech journalism?

"(Pensions Expert) would have been a pretty high-profile role here in the UK, however, I had already learned of a role where I'd be the Founding Editor of the first publication focused on agriculture investment globally (Agri Investor) and I was hooked," says Louisa. "It was by far the most interesting and exciting industry I'd covered to date and it mattered. Everyone eats - even if my sister was worried that I'd be writing about fertilizers all the time! Today, people's eyes no longer glaze over when I talk about work as they used to when it was structured bond markets."

Q: How would you describe your work ethic?

Louisa: "I’m a cuspy millennial, which makes me almost Gen X, and when I started my career we worked HARD! Long hours and even for free in the beginning. Not saying that was ideal but it means I’m not afraid of a hard day's work/or week/or month/or 10 years!"

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Louisa: "Getting to chat to, and meet, a whole bunch of people doing incredible things. And asking loads of questions."

Q: What frustrates you about agrifoodtech investment landscape?

Louisa: "That we’re still a niche industry. This seems crazy to me given how important and impactful food & ag is on EVERYONE on the planet. I can understand why it’s still small sometimes but I still think it should be bigger. I get excited when I see it intersecting increasingly with other industries like health and wellness as I think there’s enormous opportunity for positive impart but also for amazing returns."

Q: What's one way you add value to AgFunder as a business?

Louisa: "I think I add to agfunder as a business because I’m really good at karaoke and no one else is going to sing Elton John’s Crocodile rock for the team so I do it. You’re welcome!"
