Meet Our Remote Staff: Salli Hunt

As we all know, remote working has become the norm for a lot of people since the pandemic. Some now work from home all the time, or as part of a hybrid arrangement. At Bathshack, we aim to support our staff who work remotely so that they still feel part of the Bathshack family while being able to do their jobs effectively.

Since joining Bathshack in July 2021, our People Partner Salli Hunt has been working from home, introducing some fantastic changes to make our workplace more efficient & enjoyable! We caught up with Salli so she could tell us about her experience of working remotely with us.

Tell us about your role.

My role involves lots of different things! It includes the day-to-day HR admin for the company to onboarding new starters, running any recruitment campaigns and interviewing candidates. I’ve built a brand-new Intranet for internal communications, and an employee learning academy programme too. I also work alongside the line managers, supporting them with any people-related advice and strategies for department structure, etc. Finally, I make sure people get some great perks and benefits whilst working for us, and of course, get paid the right amount each month!

Why did you choose a remote position?

Working from home during Covid-19 wasn’t new to me. I spent 13 years working from home in a previous role, and I find it really suits my home life. My son has a disability, and early on in his life, we had many appointments for him during the day. Being able to pop out to an appointment and work the time back in the evening was a great way to work it. We have fewer appointments now, but I do love being able to do the school run and getting precious time back with my children. And I’m a very conscientious person, so I know I can be trusted to be just as productive in a home office - probably more so as there are less distractions!

What do you enjoy most about working remotely for Bathshack?

I love working with Bathshack because they are fun. Whilst we have a great business to grow, it’s still enjoyable because of the lovely people I get to work with, even if it is remotely. I never really feel alone as I speak to people all day. I made a point in my first month to learn everybody’s name in the business, so I feel like I have a mini relationship with all of them directly. I also feel that I’m trusted to be accountable for my work here and supported when I reach out, which is 100% how I love to work.

How has Bathshack supported you to make remote working easier?

Bathshack supports me in giving me the opportunity to come over to Ireland. This allows me to get to know people in their working environment, which is very important for my role.

Is there anything you miss about working in an office?

Other people’s birthday cake?!!! (Just kidding, it's probably my downfall!) I think when I first started it was hard because even just a simple, quick question seemed to need a phone call or e-mail. But now that I understand the business better, I don't feel any loss.

What advice would you give to anyone struggling with working from home or considering a remote position?

You HAVE to show that you’re capable of doing it by using initiative and working smart. You also need a great relationship with your manager or team, so you have the option to reach out if you feel like you need some support. Working from home doesn’t suit everyone, but for me, I have the perfect role in the best location and I’m still loving it.
