Meet our new employee, Marion!

Marion has recently started with The Livestock Collective in a graduate role as a project coordinator, so we sat down to find out more!

Name and Position

Marion Lewis - Project Coordinator?

How would you explain yourself in 5 five words?

Responsible, Dedicated, Bright, Collaborative, Thoughtful, Passionate?

What does your day job look like?

No day is the same for me. I am in my last semester of University, studying an Associate Degree in Agricultural Business through Curtin at Muresk (Northam, WA). You will find me at Muresk on Wednesdays and Thursdays completing face to face learning with my cohort. The rest of the week will depend on my commitments. I'm either home in Corrigin, in Perth or wherever else I need to be. I spend those days working either on uni assignments or work for The Livestock Collective.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of the job is being able to travel, meet new people and being able to support the industry.?

?Why did you want to work for TLC?

I have had a passion for working in agriculture from a young age and want to support the industry by advocating for how important it is in producing food and fibre for the world. I grew up on a mixed cropping and sheep farm in WA’s South West, Before going on to further my studies at Cunderdin Agricultural College.

What do you hope to achieve while at TLC?

I hope to provide others with a better understanding of what happens on farms and behind farm gates. To be able to educate the wider community about agriculture and where their food comes from is an important responsibility but essential to ensuring a sustainable future for all.?

What have you learnt at TLC to date?

I have learnt a lot about what goes into communicating with a wider audience. How important it is to change the wording for different social media platforms! But also in how you communicate a message to those with different experience and background.?

What do you think is the biggest misconception about the Australian agricultural industry?

That we don't care about our livestock and that we are always innately cruel to them. That we only produce livestock as a source of income. I find this extremely hurtful as I personally, and many others, have worked long hard physical days and hours to care for their livestock. They are more than just a source of income for me. It's my passion to be able to work on the land and care for the livestock that provides protein to those in impoverished third world countries.

Thanks Marion Lewis ! Connect with Marion at upcoming WA Ag Field Days.
